From Snack Stop to Culinary Hotspot
What is now the Mankei Alm, began in 1950 as a simple snack bar. It was built by Othmar Kuhn – and so was Obertauern's first ski lift. Thirty-seven years later, it became the first ski hut on the Plattenkar. Today, the Alm belongs to the Veit family from the Hotel Enzian and is one of the huts in Obertauern that you simply have to visit. It is named after the marmots, known as ‘Mankei’ in the Salzburg dialect, that live here.
What makes the Mankei Alm special to this day, is its genuine hospitality. No self-service, but service from people with heart – above all hut manager “Soki”, who has been the good soul of the Alm for four decades.
Mankei Nights
Eat well. Celebrate well. Enjoy each other's company. That's the simple motto of Mankei Alm evenings, held every Monday and Thursday, when you can ski down the slopes during night skiing until 10 p.m. On other days of the week, hut evenings are available on request for groups of 20 people or more.
For special occasions, a coordinated 5-course menu is available on request, along with a genuine mountain atmosphere and plenty of time to really savour the evening.
Once a year, it gets especially festive: the Mankei New Year's Eve dinner. Five courses, fireworks in the middle of the mountains and a Wiener waltz that rings in the new year as it should be – with style and a smile. Accompanied by selected Austrian wines from our winemakers. Perfect for evenings that you not only experience, but also want to remember for a little longer.

What does New Year's Eve dinner at the ski hut in Obertauern look like?
The Mankei New Year's Eve package includes a festive 5-course dinner, fireworks in the middle of the mountains and convenient transport by ski taxi – all included in the price. The New Year's Eve experience is limited to around 100 people. A reservation can be made by email or telephone.
Can the Mankei Alm in Obertauern be hired for private events?
Yes, for groups of 40 or more, the Mankei Alm can be reserved exclusively for private parties, corporate events or seminars. Depending on the weather, you can celebrate in comfort in the lounge, which seats over 120, or on our sun terrace, which can accommodate around 200 people.
How can I book the hut evenings and when do they take place?
The hut evenings always take place together with night skiing on Monday and Thursday. On other days, hut evenings for groups of 20 people or more can be requested by email or phone and organized individually.
How do I get to the Mankei Alm in Obertauern?
During the day, you can reach the Mankei Alm directly via the slopes of the Plattenkarbahn. Alternatively, for evenings at the hut or New Year's Eve, you can reach the hut comfortably and safely with the Pistenbully (groomer).
