Obertauern is considered to be one of the places most guaranteed of snow in Austria. The ski region is located between 1,630 metres and 2,313 metres above sea level and offers one cable railway, 19 chairlifts and six drag lifts. Some 100 km of ski slopes and 26 km of cross-country trails extend throughout the ski region. Snow offering maximum grip makes the slopes perfect and from the end of November until the beginning of May you can happily wedel down the slopes. Yet in addition to perfect skiing conditions, Obertauern also awaits you with first-class hotel facilities offering a high degree of comfort, long party nights and true après-ski or relaxing wellness facilities.
Ski venue with a long tradition
The first recordings of ski tourism in Obertauern date from the beginning of the 20th century. Following the first world war, holiday guests even put up with long, difficult walks to reach Obertauern in order to go skiing.
A historical highlight was the filming of the motion picture "Help" from 1965 when the Beatles skied down the slopes against an enchanting backdrop.

The cross-country trails network stretches over 26 km among Obertauern, the Gnadenalm and Tweng. Cross-country skiing uses nearly all the muscle groups and for this reason is a very effective and healthy sport.
